We have learning about processes that shape the earth.  Here was out first hand experience of how erosion and deposition by water can create canyons and deltas.  We also got to do some experimentation with multiple water sources, floods, dams, and mountains.

Symmetry

We have been doing lots of geometry recently here in 314.  Our latest endeavor has been to create shapes with line and rotational symmetry.  Here is our latest Math Movie Minute showing some of our creations.  If you want to make a symmetrical shape at home follow these simple steps.

1. Fold a piece of paper in half.

2. Pinch the folded edge and cut into the fold and around in whatever patter you choose.

3. Unfold and admire your symmetrical shape.

*To make a figure with 180 degree rotational symmetry, fold the paper in have and then in half again.  Pinch the middle corner of your folds and then cut your pattern.  Have fun!

We have been busy here with professional development and preparing our rooms and learning activities.  The highlight of the trainings among other things was seeing our fun and fancy-free administration demonstrating the Shag (the South Carolina state dance) for us!  I was unable to take a photo, so I have recreated the event for your viewing pleasure.
